There are times in our life when other types of bodywork are not enough to achieve the changes we want in order to reach our desired goals for optimal health and mobility. The mobility that you want or need is determined by your own situation. Someone recovering from surgery may want more mobility from limited muscle use that occured during their recovery. Or you may just feel tight all over and no matter what you may have tried to get your body back to where it used to be, nothing seems to work and you may even feel that this is the way things are going to be for the rest of your life.

Ultra Deep Massage or Myofascial Therapy as it's also known, may be an option to consider. During the session the client is wearing either a two piece bathing suit for women or gym shorts for men and the therapist is working at a much deeper level into the muscles than a deep tissue massage. The reason for this is to loosen and spread the myofascial layers and muscles of the body.

The fascial network has the capability to support and stabilize muscles, tendons, ligaments and bones. Fascia helps maintain balance and plays a critical role in the relationship between posture and strucural alignment. Some fascia in our body wraps each of our individual muscles much like a sausage casing. This casing allows each of our muscles to glide over the surrounding muscles so we may move freely and without discomfort.

There are times when we experience over-use of the area, have scar tissue caused either by injury or surgery, have lack of use or movement in an area of our body or even dehydration. All of these can cause the fascia in our body to become stuck and restrict our movement. Think of the fascia operating in your body like the top sheet you have on your bed. If you stand at one end and pull the sheet the oposite side will move. If someone is sitting on the sheet when you pull it, the sheet will stop at the place where the person is sitting. That is the same thing that happens in your body when the fascia gets stuck. At home you can tell the person to get off the sheet and then it will move, the fascia in your body needs a little more help to get you back to moving at your very best.

Ultra Deep Massage can assist you in achieving those goals. Even though the work is much deeper than what you may be used to during a regular massage session, it is done at a much slower pace to spread the fascia back to where it should be. The session can be intense at times but what can be achieved in one session of Structural Bodywork will help you get to where you want to be faster since more is accomplished by doing the work at a much deeper level.

Regardless if you are an athlete that wants an added edge on your competition, recovering from surgery or just wanting more overall balance, strength and mobility in your body, this type of bodywork can help you achieve your goals. To get the most mobility out of one session, either the 1 1/2 hour or 2 hour session will give you the best results. A 1 hour session can still achieve increased mobility where you can choose overall mobility and strength or have a specific area addressed in detail. The 1/2 hour session is designed more for issues in one area such as the shoulders, legs or hips without releasing the fascia in other parts of the body. The 1/2 hour session is good if you are limited on time and feel fairly loose on the rest of your body.
